Make new friends - Thomas Cook style
KidsWORLD Representatives
"I joined Thomas Cook after studying childcare at college and, so far, I’ve put my qualification to good use in Ibiza, Tenerife and Mallorca. It was such a change to get away from the grey UK and start an exciting new life in the sun.
The thing I love about the job is that every day can be so different. One morning I could be up at 8am waving off coaches, another I could be getting to know all the new children at the welcome meeting, and telling a room full of people what a fantastic time they can look forward to. Evenings can be anything from slumber parties to running a mini-disco with the Thomas Cook entertainers, and they’re a real laugh.
To do the job well you need to be able to create a fun and exciting environment for all the children you care for. So you should always have a big smile and bags of enthusiasm. And knowing loads of games really helps. But you must also recognise that all children have different needs, and some can be quite demanding at times. Which is why you need lots of patience too.
I really enjoy my summers now and have so much fun – meeting lots of lovely people and making great friends along the way. There are so many benefits to this job that it would be hard to list them all. But one of the highlights is smashing my sales and customer service targets, which means that my customers have gone away having had an excellent holiday. Plus it makes me proud to know I am doing a good job. I just love it. Simple as that."
