Strecthing yourself at work - Thomas Cook style
Escapades Reps
"I’m having lots of fun and meeting loads of new people as an Escapades Rep, and have already worked in the Canaries, Cyprus, Greece and Ibiza. My past few seasons have just flown by, plus I’ve made lifelong friends and managed to save some money. I also get to live abroad for six months of the year.
The hours are usually long and the expectations high, and there are sales and service targets to meet too. So it can be hard work. But the guaranteed sunshine and great social life more than make up for that. And if you do achieve your sales targets, there’s plenty of money to be made. Another great thing is that you get to work as an Overseas Rep during the off-peak months, which means even more variety in the role.
A typical day starts at 9am at the hotel (even if you’ve been working till 2am). Then it’s off to the airport for departure and arrival transfers and, as soon as I’m back in resort, its straight to the hotel for guest welcome meetings. As for the evenings, I could be doing anything from guiding a bar crawl to organising a ‘school’ disco.
To do this job, you definitely have to be fun-loving and outgoing. A real people person. But it’s not all about going out and having a good time. So you must also be able to think and act on your feet. After all, your guests will be relying on you to make sure they have the best holiday ever. But, if you’re confident, energetic and upbeat, and a great communicator, then this definitely the job for you."
